Fubo Whines About Unwanted NBC-Owned Channels as Standoff Drags On

Fubo subscribers are still without NBC and its affiliated channels as their carriage fight continues with no end in sight. Fubo claims NBCUniversal is trying to force them to carry all the soon-to-be-spun-off Versant channels, which would inflate the cost of Fubo’s less expensive Sports plan.

Fubo’s regular base plan is significantly more expensive than the skinnier Sports bundle because it carries more general entertainment channels and whacks users with a hidden regional sports fee.

In a statement released today, Fubo outlined its frustration with NBCUniversal.

Despite them not being worth the cost to Fubo subscribers, Fubo offered to distribute Versant channels for one year. NBCU wants Fubo to sign a multi-year deal – well past the time the Versant channels will be owned by a separate company. NBCU wants Fubo subscribers to subsidize these channels.

  • CNBC
  • MS NOW (formerly MSNBC)
  • Oxygen
  • E!
  • Syfy
  • Golf Channel

Why Else is Fubo Fuming?

Another frustration is that NBCU won’t let Fubo add Peacock to their puny channel store.

NBCU is discriminating against Fubo and our subscribers. They allowed YouTube TV and Amazon Prime Video to integrate Peacock directly into their channel store, but refused to give Fubo the same rights. Fuboโ€™s goal is to make Peacock available directly in our channel store so subscribers can access all of their content in one place and seamlessly pay on one bill.

What Fubo Isn’t Saying…

One notable absence from today’s announcement: anything about NBC Sports Network. Since its recent return, the only live TV streamer to carry it is YouTube TV. The schedule includes nearly every live sport available on Peacock, so live streamers that add it will get a strong boost of NBA coverage.

It’s safe to assume Fubo wants NBC Sports Network, but NBCU will want Fubo to pay a premium.

Incoming Credit

Fubo will give users a $15 credit automatically on or after Dec. 1if the blackout continues. That could fully pay for an ad-supported Peacock subscription to access most NBC-owned content. If you upgrade to the ad-free Peacock, you’ll get access to your live, local NBC affiliate as well.
