FanDuel Sports Network May Soon Have a New Owner

The biggest provider of regional sports in the U.S. could soon have a new owner. The Wall Street Journal reports British sports media company DAZN is in “advanced talks” to acquire a majority stake in FanDuel Sports Networks’ parent company: Main Street Sports Group.

WSJ reports the deal could close as early as January.

While giant U.S. companies are jockeying over national sports packages, regional sports rights are a patchwork situation. Some teams offer their games free over the air, some have team-owned sports streamers, and others partner with companies like FanDuel.

DAZN holds many major sports rights overseas, but it has struggled to get a foothold in the U.S. In America, the service primarily offers combat sports, soccer games from Italy’s Lega Serie A, Jupiler Pro League soccer matches and LIV Golf events.

If DAZN is able to take control of FanDuel, we could see a bundle offer of the two services or DAZN could try to absorb FanDuel Sports channels entirely.

FanDuel Sports Network has found success with its teams. Thanks to its partnership with Prime Video and its wide distribution, the company estimates it will hit 1 million subscribers by the end of 2025. FanDuel is also innovating with new options like a single-game viewing option that frees sports fans from being tied to a full month’s subscription.
