Netflix Passes 325 Million Subscribers, Adds Titles from Universal and Paramount

For the first time in a year, Netflix shared its subscriber number: more than 325 million worldwide. And with that huge subscriber base, Netflix is adding more value by offering some titles from Universal and Paramount.

While Netflix has long been home to Universal’s animated movies, it has expanded that deal to include some live-action titles as well.

Netflix also announced it will soon add Paramount shows like “SEAL Team,” “Watson,” and “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Those deals signal a bit of trouble for Paramount+ and Universal’s Peacock. If their growth has flatlined, they would look to a competitor like Netflix for added revenue. Sometimes, dropping a show on Netflix actually increases demand for those shows overall, like when Netflix supercharged popularity of “Breaking Bad” as the series continued its run on linear AMC.

Along with the Universal and Paramount deals, Netflix previously announced an extension of its deal with Sony to be their first subscription streaming destination. That deal brought box office duds like “Morbius” and “Madame Web” to Netflix, where they became popular as viewers wanted to see the stinkers without paying extra.

Netflix enjoyed a monster Q4 in 2025, thanks in part to its live events. The Jake Paul-Joshua Anthony fight triggered a big subscription spike, but that was dwarfed by the number of people signing up to watch some truly terrible football on Christmas.

Against this backdrop looms the planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Netflix brass said on their earnings video today that they feel confident the deal will close, and they committed to a 45-day theatrical window, which runs counter to some previous statements. We expect the Netflix price will go up after the acquisition, but company leaders said they had no plans to adjust the subscription price while the deal is in the works.
