DIRECTV Shrinks MySports Lineup for New Users, Dropping News Channels

With YouTube TV making their new channel lineups available for everybody, DIRECTV is pivoting to attack their rival. Because the YouTube TV Sports Plan does not include news channels, DIRECTV’s MySports package has dropped them. New users won’t get CNBC, CNN, Fox Business network, Fox News Channel, or MS NOW. The plan does now have ESPNews, however.

MySports is now $44.99 for your first two months, then $64.99 after that. (For comparison, YouTube TV’s Sports package is $54.99 for the first month and $64.99 after that.) DIRECTV’s MySports includes an ESPN Unlimited subscription. YouTube TV does not.

If you miss the news channels, DIRECTV is offering a MySports + MyNews combo for $59.99/month for the first two months. That’s a $20 discount.

Should You Choose DIRECTV or YouTube TV’s Sports Package?

Both are good options, but there are some key differences.

YouTube TV Advantage

DIRECTV Advantage

Includes NBC Sports Network for otherwise Peacock-exclusive sports

Includes MLB Network, NHL Network, and Tennis Channel

Can lock price at $54.99 for 12 months

Discounted first two months ($44.99)

If we consider a full year of service with the first two months discounted, DIRECTV’s MySports would work out to an average of $61.66/month.

Like most competitors, these services are hoping to lure you in with discounts and free trials, betting that you won’t bother switching to a competitor. It’s a good idea to reassess your needs whenever the intro discount ends. There’s almost always a better deal.
