The Hidden Netflix Feature Every Parent Should Know
Most streaming services do a decent job of providing parental controls to keep kids from seeing things they shouldn’t. In most cases, that’s a ratings adjustment that allows you to choose what shows or movies appear in a child’s profile. Most streamers also provide a PIN option to keep kids from accessing grown-up libraries.
But Netflix has a feature that I love and wish every streaming service had: you can block individual titles from appearing in a kid’s profile.
My kids love watching Netflix on the weekends, but they have a habit of bingeing some shows that drive me crazy. There were months where the only things they watched were the Nickelodeon shows “Henry Danger” and “The Thundermans.” When they started having behavioral issues, I brought out the big guns: correct the behavior or their favorite shows would disappear. The attitudes continued, so I nuked the laugh track-saturated brain-rot.
How to Block Specific Shows or Movies from a Netflix Profile
This is always easier from a computer’s web browser.
- Log into your Netflix profile.
- Click your icon in the upper right corner and select Manage Profiles from the dropdown menu.
- Click the user’s account you want to adjust.
- Click Adjust Parental Controls.
- You may be asked to confirm you’re the account owner with 2-factor authentication.
- On the next screen, you have the ability to select the Profile Maturity (what content ratings are available to your child), the option to choose the Kids Profile experience (probably best until they’re a teenager), and finally, Title Restrictions.
- In the Title Restrictions section, just type the name of the show or movie you want to delete. The titles will autocomplete as you type, so you can select your target as soon as you see it. Click the title’s name and it will magically vanish from your child’s profile.

It’s up to you whether you want to delete it quietly and just tell your kids it must have left Netlix, or whether you want to drop the hammer, announce the ban, and make it happen.

In my case, my kids did modify their behavior over time, and I think they’ve earned the right to get their superhero shows back.
If you want to restore a show, just go back to the same page and hit the little gray “X” next to a title. It will return to the child’s library.
It’s important to note that you can do this on any profile, including your own. This is helpful if you keep getting recommended Theo Von standup specials. No one should have to endure that.
