Peacock Kills Inexpensive Ad-Free Workaround

Peacock subscribers are fuming after an email today. Many Peacock users grabbed a 2024 Black Friday deal for $20/year for the ad-supported plan — but users could then choose an ad-free add-on for $6/month. That made a year of ad-free streaming just $92. Now, Peacock is killing the add-free add-on for those subscribers.

Without the workaround, Peacock’s ad-free version is $13.99/month or $139.99/year.

$7.99/mo.

We’re not Peacock fans at Streaming Smarter. It’s too expensive considering how few originals they have. And most of those originals aren’t worth watching. The service has some nice sports and plenty of reruns, but we rarely use it, even when we’re subscribed.

Peacock’s most popular content is reruns of “Yellowstone,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “The Office.” I like “The Traitors,” but there are only three seasons and it’s not a show worth rewatching.

Nearly every other streaming service has superior originals. Max has “The Last of Us,” “The Rehearsal,” “Hacks,” and “The White Lotus.” Netflix has a firehose of original content that keeps us coming back. Paramount+ has the Taylor Sheridan shows including the “Yellowstone” spin-offs. Hulu has “Only Murders in the Building,” “Shogun,” and “Paradise.” Disney+ has its Marvel and Star Wars shows.

Earlier this month, Peacock lost all its Hallmark content.
