MyOutdoorTV Subscribers Grow 40% in a Year – Why Niche Streaming is the Future

For a few years, every streamer wanted to be Netflix. With its ever-increasing subscriber numbers (now estimated at 310 million) and reliable profitability, it remains the gold standard of streaming. But as every competitor has failed to topple the king, a new trend is emerging: the remarkable growth of the micro-streamer.

MyOutdoorTV is a niche streamer that focuses on hunting, fishing, and outdoor adventure content. And if you judge it by percentage of subscriber growth, it’s one of the most impressive streaming services in the world. MyOutdoorTV just crossed 360,000 subscribers. That’s up 20% since the start of 2025 and up 40% since the start of 2024.

MyOutdoorTV is leaping ahead thanks to fan-favorite features like “Just Shot” and “Just Caught” videos – footage of hunting and fishing successes almost immediately after they occur in the field. That quick-turn production offers something other streamers aren’t attempting, and it’s keeping a passionate user base satisfied.

The Rise of Niche Streaming

While most people subscribe to a general entertainment streamer with Hollywood movies and original TV shows, a good chunk of the audience is looking elsewhere to satisfy its specific interests.

According to the data analytics firm Antenna, specialty streamers have been growing rapidly. From the third quarter of 2023, those smaller streamers have been responsible for more than 20% of gross new streaming subscriptions every quarter.

Among the most popular specialty streamers are AMC+ (with Shudder‘s great horror library), Crunchyroll (the world’s best anime library), and BritBox, PBS Masterpiece, and Acorn TV (standout British series).

These streamers aren’t trying to duke it out with Netflix, Hulu, or Peacock. They’re picking an interest and optimizing for that fan base.

Amazon’s Prime Video is a key contributor to this growing ecosystem. Antenna found that Amazon was responsible for 58% of sign-ups to such services. With 130+ possible add-on subscriptions, Prime Video is a great marketplace whether you’re interested in horror, documentaries, family entertainment, international content, exercise, or specialized sports.

Considering Prime Video itself has a 30-day free trial and nearly all these micro-streamers offer free trials as well, it’s easy to see why adoption is on the rise.

The Big Retreat of the Mega-Streamers

In the blast furnace of the streaming wars, nearly every service except Netflix has given up trying to please everyone. Warner Bros. Discovery tucked its tail between its legs by announcing Max will once again be named HBO Max, and they’re giving up on the kids and lifestyle content that marked its last rebrand.

“Andor” creator Tony Gilroy says Disney told him, “Streaming is dead, we don’t have the money we had before.” If you look at the release schedules of Disney+ and Hulu, it’s obvious there’s not nearly as much content coming out.

Even Prime Video with Amazon’s deep pockets is backpedaling. The company just killed off “The Wheel of Time,” a series that cost a reported $130 million per season.

This lack of investment opens the door for smaller, more passionate specialty streamers to step in. MyOutdoorTV is likely one of many to reap the rewards.
