DIRECTV’s New MyKids Option Offers Disney+, Nickelodeon, and More for $20/Month

If you’re a parent looking for an inexpensive way to keep your kids entertained, DIRECTV now offers a strong package for just $19.99. The brand new MyKids “genre pack” gives you some of the best kids’ TV channels alongside free Disney+. Let’s break it down.

$19.99/mo.+

What Channels Does DIRECTV’s MyKids Include?

The channel package offers most channels your kids may want.

  • The Nickelodeon Family:ย Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, Nick Jr.,ย andย TeenNick
  • The Disney Lineup:ย Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD
  • The Warner Bros. Discovery Collection:ย Cartoon Network, Boomerang,ย andย Discovery Family
  • Independent Channels:ย BabyFirst TV, LooLooKids TV,ย andย MeTV Toons

This package does not include my favorite preschool option: PBS Kids, but you can stream that for free with the PBS Kids app.

What’s Up With the Free Disney+?

Subscribers to MyKids will automatically get access to Disney+, though this is the plan that includes commercials. That plan normally costs $9.99/month on its own, so getting all those extra kids’ channels is an excellent value.

Disney+ gives you so much great kids’ content, like the Disney animated films, Pixar, Star Wars, The Muppets, Marvel movies, and much more.

Can You Add Anything to MyKids?

Yes. Subscribers can add DIRECTV’s MyCinema mini-pack for $9.99/month. That add-on provides the following channels:

  • Family Movie Classics
  • Great American Family
  • GRIT
  • INSP
  • LMN
  • ShortsTV
  • Sony Movies HD
  • TCM

Can You Add Major Networks, Sports, or More Mature Channels to MyKids?

If you’re looking for a larger channel package, it may be better to choose a standard DIRECTV package like their Entertainment package for $84.99/month. That gives you lots of kids channels, sports, news, and entertainment for the whole family.

Is MyKids a Good Deal?

Honestly, it’s pretty great. The package is loaded with cartoons and family-friendly programming.

If I have any reservation, it’s that going with MyKids will expose your children to a lot of commercials. You may be better off spending that money alternating between ad-free Disney+ ($15.99) and ad-free Nickelodeon programming with Paramount+ Premium ($12.99).

Still, if you’re looking for the most content for your money, DIRECTV’s MyKids is worth consideration. It’s a strong offering, and one that will fit in for passive viewers who don’t want to mess with on-demand platforms.
