Need a New Show? Here’s How to Stream the 2025 Emmy Nominees
With so many streaming movies and shows, it can be tough to find something great among the endless heaps of garbage. Thankfully, the Emmy nominations can steer us in the right direction. Here are some ideas to help you find a winner.
Services with the Most Nominations
HBO Max leads this year’s pack with 142 nominations. The service has historically delivered some of the best TV around, so it’s well worth trying the service if you haven’t before. It’s home to 5 of the 10 most-nominated shows!
$9.99/mo.
In second place is Netflix with 120 nominations. While Netflix certainly churns out a bunch of junk, it’s also got a lot of great content to keep you entertained.
$7.99/mo.
Apple TV+ is in third place, which is pretty remarkable. Its 79 nominations come from a smaller slate of shows than most of its competitors, but there’s no doubt the service is hitting its stride.
$9.99/mo.
Another great option is Hulu with a combined 95 nominations in its library. Its originals racked up 23 nominations, while “FX on Hulu” provided another 35 nods, and ABC added 37. You’ll see nearly all of that content on Hulu, and the service is fantastic for TV lovers.
$9.99/mo.
Shows with the Most Nominations
Severance – 27 Nominations

This topsy-turvy sci-fi story really is one of the best shows on TV. In a near-future, workers can decide to “sever” their lives, so they have no memory of what they do at work. The flipside is that the “worker” versions of themselves have no idea what’s happening outside the office. It’s thrilling and funny and weird and romantic.

The Penguin – 24 Nominations

Who says comic books can’t create high art? Once again, the Batman universe gives us a compelling story of good and evil. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti lead the cast as we follow Oz Cobb during his rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld.

The Studio โ 23 Nominations

Hollywood loves stories about itself, and Seth Rogen’s comedy series hits really close to the mark. The show is packed with celebrity cameos and most episodes appear to take place in a single, unbroken take. If you love the cringey coincidences of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” you’ll probably love this show about Hollywood egos crashing and burning.

The White Lotus โ 23 Nominations

This anthology series features all-star casts in exotic places, kinda like “Fantasy Island,” but with way less cheese. Each season spotlights a new round of guests spending a week at a different White Lotus resort. The most recent season featured Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, LMichelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Sam Rockwell, and Scott Glenn.
If you want to get hooked on this frothy drama in a beautiful setting, you can stream all 3 seasons now!

The Last of Us โ 16 Nominations

If I’m being totally honest, I hated the most recent season of “The Last of Us.” Sure, it had a killer second episode, but the movie jumped the shark immediately after that as our tale of zombie apocalypse survival suddenly became a low-stakes teen rom-com. The first season was pretty remarkable, but many viewers gave up in the second season. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.

Andor โ 14 Nominations

This show is remarkable. What started as a prequel series to a prequel Star Wars movie (“Rogue One”) became the best current events parallel sci-fi show since the rebooted “Battlestar Galactica.” Sure, it has aliens and space ships and laser guns. But this is an incredible story about how revolutions are born of oppression. Every character is forced to choose a side and make tremendous sacrifices.
Even if you’ve never seen Star Wars, you may find yourself enthralled by this story of political betrayal, subterfuge, sacrifice, and courage in the face of long odds. The more I think about this show, the more I am amazed it exists. It deserves every one of its nominations.

Hacks โ 14 Nominations

In Season 4 of this beloved comedy/drama, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) finally gets her dream of hosting a late night talk show, but the dream doesn’t exactly work out. Deborah is forced to choose between continuing the show or supporting her friend and writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder). The show highlights the tightrope of fame and the tension between a writer looking to climb the ladder and a star doing her damndest to hang onto it.

Adolescence โ 13 Nominations

When police show up to arrest 13-year-old Jamie Miller for the murder of a classmate, we’re taken along for a gutwrenching ride. This drama puts a spotlight on the difficulties young men face in an environment of toxic masculinity, bullying, and a lack of emotional support. This show isn’t an easy watch, but it’s important as a generation of boys comes of age in a world where positive role models are hard to come by.

The Bear โ 13 Nominations

The Bear is a show that excels at the modern trend of straddling comedy and drama. An Italian beef stand in Chicago has been transformed into a fine dining destination, and each of the characters faces challenges to bring their A-game to a higher standard of service. The pressure cooker of Michelin star pursuit forces each character to deal with past trauma and evolve. There’s nothing else like it on TV, and you can stream all four seasons now.

The Pitt โ 13 Nominations

I was skeptical when I started watching this show – medical dramas aren’t my thing – but I’ll be darned if it didn’t win me over. Noah Wylie plays the attending physician in a Pittsburgh emergency room. Every episode follows another hour in his 15-hour shift.
The show does a great job of weaving together episodic emergencies (someone has a snake bite from working near a wood pile, an anti-vax mom tries to lecture the doctors, a kid is found unresponsive in a swimming pool) and season-long intrigue (Is the troubled kid we meet early on going to shoot up his school? Will the pregnant doctor be okay? What’s going on with that angry dude in the waiting room?).
The show features a lot of strong young actors as medical students and residents on their first day in the ER, and they are in for one crazy ride.
There’s a reason this was one of the most popular new shows of the year, and I give it a strong recommendation.
