Sling Now Offers Live TV Access for 1 Day, 1 Weekend, or 1 Week

If you want a live TV package, but don’t want to have to sign up for a full month, Sling TV just blew up the traditional pricing model. Now you have the option to watch TV for one day ($4.99), one weekend ($9.99), or one week ($14.99).

I would not recommend these plans unless you have a very specific need. A monthly plan is always the better value. Let’s break this down.

What Sling Plans Are Available Now?

In addition to the traditional monthly plans, Sling now offers these shorter subscription offers, along with a 5-month plan.

What’s the Catch?

Aside from the fact that you’re paying a lot more on a per-day basis for these short-term subscriptions, they only apply to the Sling Orange channel package. It includes the following channels:

  • ESPN
  • Disney Channel
  • Freeform
  • ESPN 4K
  • ESPN2
  • ESPN3
  • MotorTrend
  • A&E
  • AMC
  • AXS TV
  • BBC America
  • BET
  • Bloomberg Television
  • CHARGE!
  • CNN
  • Comedy Central
  • Comet
  • Food Network
  • Fuse
  • HGTV
  • History Channel
  • IFC
  • Investigation Discovery
  • Lifetime
  • Local Now
  • MeTV
  • MGM+ Drive-In
  • Nick Jr.
  • QVC
  • Sling scapes
  • Sling scapes 2
  • TBS
  • TNT
  • Travel Channel
  • Vice

You won’t get local network affiliates (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) on the new plans – those are available on Sling Blue, and only in select markets. These mini-plans are also missing important channels like Fox News, NFL Network, TLC, USA, E!, or Bravo.

Who Should Get a Short-Term Sling Subscription?

Because of the channels involved, this is probably best for someone who wants to watch one particular game on ESPN. If you wanted to watch Monday Night Football, for example, that would cost $20/month (4 Mondays per month x $4.99), as opposed to the cost of the new ESPN Unlimited plan ($29.99).

It’s a good option if you rely on an antenna, and you should always have an antenna as a cord-cutter.

For most people, these plans seem more trouble than they’re worth, but if you’re dead set on not having a monthly bill, I suppose they’re helpful.
