Freevee Shuts Down Forever – Where to Stream Free Movies and TV Now
Pour one out for one of the original free streaming services. Freevee is finished.
If you try to access the app today, you’ll get a screen that says:
Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV
Continue watching your favorite Freevee Originals and our library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free, no subscription needed. Download Prime Video to get started and sign-in with your Amazon account.
Unfortunately, this further clutters the Prime Video interface. The service has become increasingly difficult to navigate over the years. Users will see some free titles that always have ads, some that require a paid Prime Video subscription (that will lose ads if you pay an extra $3/month), and some that require a subscription to a premium channel. The service doesn’t do a good job of separating these things, so it’s a frustrating experience.
Freevee’s high point was the 2023 Emmy-nominated reality series “Jury Duty,” where actors pretended to be real people seated on a jury. One of the jurors was a real person, unaware of the rigged production unfolding around him.
Freevee was previously called IMDb TV. Before that, it was IMDb Freedive. The service launched in 2019.

We love free streaming services here at Streaming Smarter, so we’re happy to share the best ways to keep streaming for free without the tangle of the Prime Video interface.
Kanopy
Kanopy is simply amazing. It has a great mix of recent movies and classics. There’s a big library of kids’ content and plenty of educational content from The Great Courses.
Best of all there are no commercials! The only catch: your library needs to partner with Kanopy. But if you add your library card information, you’re off and running.
Right now, you can use Kanopy to watch great movies like “Raging Bull,” “Moonstruck,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Bull Durham,” “Almost Famous,” “Parasite,” “Spotlight,” “Anchorman,” “Best in Show,” “Seven Samurai,” “Adaptation,” “Let the Right One In,” and “Interstellar.”
Plex
There’s nothing quite like Plex. It’s remarkably powerful.
For free content, you’ll see 960+ live TV channelsย andย 50,000+ on-demand titles.
Even better, you can use Plex to watch videos you have on your computer’s hard drive.
I upgraded to the Plex Pass option, which has a lifetime subscription. That allows me to share my videos with friends and family.
By connecting an antenna and HDHomeRun box, I can watch live TV for free and record to my computer’s hard drive to save as long as I want. Plex Pass can even remove commercials from recordings.
Plex also allows you note the other streaming services you have access to – that way, when you search for a title, Plex can send you right to the proper place to watch it without having to search each service individually.
The service also includes PlexAmp, which lets me play and download the music I have on my computer.
I use Plex every single day. That’s not an exaggeration. Everyone should have it, and you can get started for free.

Pluto TV

When I need background TV, I fire up Pluto TV. The service does have plenty of on-demand titles, but its 24/7 virtual channels are top-notch.
Kick back with “Star Trek,” “The Amazing Race,” or “Survivor.” Enjoy classic sitcoms like “I Love Lucy,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “Cheers,” “Family Ties,” “NewsRadio,” and “Frasier.”
If you’re a “Big Brother” fan, you can watch 24/7 live feeds from inside the house.
From old game shows and westerns to live news and kids’ shows, Pluto TV has something for everyone.
PBS Kids
For preschoolers, there’s nothing better than PBS Kids. Commercials are rare and not really bothersome.
Kids will get a kick out of โWild Kratts,โ โSuper Why,โ โWord Girl,โ and โWork It Out Wombats.โ “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” was my kids’ first TV show when they were 2. It teaches endless life skills in a way your toddlers can grasp.
Even though the Trump administration is doing all it can to kill PBS, this service is one of the best things about America. It deserves your full support. Our kids are better off for having access to it.
Haystack News
Harnessing the power of more than 400 news providers, Haystack News is my go-to free news service. Unlike nearly every other streamer, Haystack News conforms to your needs. Choose the topics and providers that interest you. Give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to topics. Skip forward past segments you don’t like.
While Haystack is my favorite, you can also get a fair amount of news with other free services like Zeam, Plex, Local Now, Very Local, NewsON, and Xumo Play.
Tubi
Tubi is the 800-pound gorilla of the free streaming world. This monster has 275,000 movies and TV episodesย and more than 300 exclusive originals. The ads aren’t all that bad, and the library far surpasses most other free streamers.
Right now, Tubi has top-notch movies like “Goodfellas,” “The Truman Show,” “The Fifth Element,” “Mean Girls,” “Coming to America,” “World War Z,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “I, Tonya,” “Clueless,” and “American History X.”
You’ll also find Looney Tunes, “The Flintstones,” and many other cartoons recently discarded by HBO Max. Tubi is great.
