Can You Subscribe to Prime Video Only? Everything You Need to Know

If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, you’ll get free access to their on-demand streaming service: Prime Video. But it is possible to sign up for Prime Video as a standalone option. Here’s how to make that happen.

Start at the Prime Video website and click Start your 30-day free trial.

From there, enter your information and you’ll be up and running!

Is There Any Benefit to Having Prime Video Only?

The price is the biggest benefit.

Prime Video is just $8.99/month with ads. You can remove the ads for $3 more.

If you get full Amazon Prime (that includes Prime Video), it’s $14.99/month or $139.99/year.

Amazon Prime now has a Young Adult plan that’s just $7.49/month or $69/year. It offers the full suite of Amazon Prime benefits at a reduced price for people 18-24. Even better, you get 60 days to try it for free.

What Are the Benefits of Amazon Prime Beyond Prime Video?

Amazon Prime gives you lots of video streaming at no extra cost, but there are many other benefits as well:

  • Free delivery – same-day, 1-day, or 2-day delivery on millions of items
  • Grocery delivery – in some areas, get your groceries within two hours
  • Free Grubhub+ – Enjoy $0 delivery fees on food
  • Amazon Key – allows Amazon drivers to place your packages securely in your garage – no more porch pirates!
  • Amazon Music – shuffle play almost any song without ads
  • Amazon Music Unlimted – enjoy 100 million songs on-demand free for 4 months
  • Prime Gaming – play free video games
  • Amazon Photos – unlimited full-resolution photo storage and 5GB of video storage
  • RxPass – Get your medications for just $5/month
  • Save on Gas – Prime Members can get gas discounts at thousands of stations nationwide

Which Should You Choose: Prime Video Only or Amazon Prime?

It really comes down to whether you order a lot of items. For my family, we’re constantly buying school supplies and essentials. Amazon has come to the rescue with some obscure items that are hard to find in grocery stores near me. For that reason, Amazon Prime makes more sense.

But if you don’t like the additional perks, a standalone Prime Video subscription may make more sense. It’s especially critical during the NFL season with their exclusive Thursday games. Prime Video will also be home to several NBA games starting this fall, so that makes it a compelling value as well.

Either way, it’s a good benefit and good value. I’ve been a Prime member for years and I don’t see that ending anytime soon.
