DIRECTV Set to Release New Mobile/Tablet App
DIRECTV still stands as my favorite live TV provider. It has lots of channel bundles at different price points, more regional sports networks than any other provider, and the company says a new mobile/tablet app is nearly ready.
In a Reddit post today, the official DIRECTV account posted this:
Without giving too much away, some long-requested changes are about to land for mobile/tablet users. Think easier navigation, a look thatโs easier on the eyes, and a whole lot more fan friendly. Keep an eye out for the update.

Update Dec. 17: DIRECTV confirms the new app is rolling out and should be on all devices by early 2026. The features highlighted are:
- New top and bottom navigation for faster, easier browsing
- Dark UI (finally!) You said it was “important” or “very important”
- Smoother, more personalized experience all around
While I normally don’t recommend YouTube TV, one of the best things about it is how smoothly the mobile app works. Not every live TV provider offers something that nice. A revamped DIRECTV app may not drive more people to sign up (channels and prices are the primary drivers there), but it may make DIRECTV customers happier, which will help with retention.
In both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the DIRECTV app has a 4.6 rating out of 5. Recent reviews have complained about the app freezing up and bugs that cause errors. We’ve contacted DIRECTV to see if they’re willing to share specifics about the new app experience.
The developer team has clearly been busy behind the scenes at DIRECTV. Last week, the streamer just launched the DIRECTV app on LG Smart TVs from 2021 and newer, running on webOS 6.0 or higher
