FanDuel Sports Network Teams Worry Broadcaster Won’t Be Able to Afford Rest of 2026 Seasons

If you’re a fan of one of the NBA, MLB, or NHL teams carried by FanDuel Sports Networks, buckle up for chaos. According to Sports Business Journal, a planned FanDuel takeover by DAZN seems to be falling through. A second bidder (rumored to be Fubo) is said to be circling the regional sports channels, but the teams involved don’t seem willing to make the deal more attractive for a possible new owner.

$19.99/mo.

MLB sources tell SBJ the St. Louis Cardinals have already planned their exit after Main Street Sports (FanDuel’s parent company) missed their December rights fee payment.

Sources say every other MLB FanDuel team is getting ready to jump ship except the Rays.

The possible deal with DAZN fell through because the broadcasters wanted the NBA and NHL teams to extend their deals through the 2028-29 season, and the teams refused. The broadcasters are also asking the teams to reduce their broadcast rights fees.

Even if Main Street Sports can’t come up with the money to continue, they still plan to broadcast the rest of the 2025-26 NBA and NHL seasons. Sources say the teams on FanDuel Sports Networks are worried the channels will run out of operating cash and won’t be able to finish the season out.

If FanDuel somehow collapses midseason, it’s likely the leagues themselves will step in to finish out the year.

Complicating all of this, MLB and the NBA want to launch their own national RSNs as soon as next year, so any company that has the broadcast rights won’t have them for long.
