Fubo and Hulu + Live Merge – Here’s What Happens Now

It’s a landmark day in this history of streaming TV. Fubo and Hulu + Live TV are now one company serving 6 million subscribers. But a big move like this will have ripple effects for years. We’ll break down what this means for subscribers.

Can I Keep Fubo or Hulu + Live TV?

Yes. Both services will continue to be available. For now, at least, you won’t notice any real changes from a consumer standpoint.

I Heard Hulu Is Going Away – Is That True?

Yes, the standalone Hulu app that offers on-demand movies and shows will be shut down sometime in 2026. All of Hulu’s content will fold into Disney+.

However, Hulu + Live TV will continue to operate. The name could change, but it will still exist. Disney was silly for having two products with the same name. It’s confusing, we know.

Will Fubo Get CNN, TNT, and the Other Warner Bros. Discovery Channels?

Fubo famously told Warner Bros. Discovery to pound sand during their contract negotiations. The channels have been off Fubo ever since.

In the short term, we expect no changes.

Will Hulu + Live TV Get More Regional Sports Networks?

For now, you shouldn’t expect that. It will take a few months for the newly merged company to decide what it looks like. Use Fubo if you need an RSN in the meantime or choose your standalone RSN app.

What Will This Partnership Look Like in the Future?

Over time, we think Fubo and Hulu + Live TV will morph into something resembling DIRECTV. “Fubo” will be a sports-focused channel package with regional sports networks, while they probably change the name of Hulu + Live TV and it becomes a more generalized channel package.

If we had to guess, they’ll probably dump all the names and choose something different and sort out the channels on various tiers.

Will the Prices Go Up?

Of course.

Hulu + Live TV enacted its price hike earlier this month. Fubo is already too expensive, so that will probably stay the same.

Will Fubo Get the Disney Bundle?

Fubo’s least expensive package (Sports + News) already includes ESPN Unlimited. It’s possible the new company starts including Disney+ and Hulu on those bundles, but it may take a while.

Is This Merger a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

Ultimately, it represents one fewer company providing live TV over the internet, and that’s bad.

Our major players are now Google (YouTube TV), TPG Capital (DIRECTV), EchoStar (Sling TV), and Fubo (Fubo and Hulu + Live TV). Roku (Frndly TV) and Philo exist, but they’re much smaller players. Aside from that, you’re looking at having to deal with a cable company for live TV.

Fewer companies mean less competition, and less competition always means a higher price.
