Fubo Still Offers ‘Essential’ Plan, But Only for Current Subscribers Downgrading

Fubo‘s price shenanigans continue. The streamer, infamous for hiding its regional sports fee until the checkout page, is offering more pricing confusion today. Fubo recently removed its least expensive “Essential” plan from its signup page. But as I discovered, the plan is still there — but now it’s only available to current Pro or Elite customers who want to downgrade to it.

The Essential plan offers the same lineup as Pro, but without the Regional Sports Networks or the accompanying RSN fee (now as high as $16.99/month).

Because Fubo’s regional sports fee is not immediately apparent, it seems like Essential and Pro are the same price. But you’ll discover the hidden regional sports fee when you go to check out.

If you’re a Fubo subscriber who wants the Essential plan, log into your Fubo account on a computer, then hit the gear-shaped “Settings” icon in the upper right corner. Select “My Account,” choose “Subscription,” and then “Change Plan.” You’ll see the screen above and can make your selections there.

Fubo Quarterly Options Return

Fubo’s often-disappearing quarterly pricing has also returned for existing users who wish to switch over. Pro Quarterly is available for $254.97 and Elite Quarterly is available for $284.97. What’s weird is that there’s no financial benefit to paying quarterly. The hidden regional fees are still shown after you click the “Check Out” button and that pricing is consistent with the monthly plans.

Every other streaming service that offers a quarterly or annual plan provides a discount. But Fubo gonna Fubo.

Occasionally, Fubo has offered quarterly-only pricing when sports seasons begin. In theory, this prevents people from leaving after one month. In reality, it probably prevents people from signing up in the first place.

I sympathize with Fubo customers who are frustrated with the frequent changes. No other streaming service slaps the “price randomizer” button as often as Fubo. The hidden sports fee is bad enough, but the frequent plan fluctuations are a headache no one needs.
