Fubo Raises Hidden Fee as High as $16.99
Fubo is a solid live TV streaming service, but we’ve always been annoyed they don’t provide price transparency on their website. Since doing away with its only channel package without regional sports a few days ago, it’s now raising its hidden regional sports fee as high as $16.99/month for subscribers in some areas. Here’s the language provided by its chatbot:
In order to bring you the best in live sports programming, if you subscribe to Fubo and receive regional sports programming, the Regional Sports Fee will be included on your monthly bill.
The amount of this fee varies depending on your area, and will be up to $16.99/month.
On its homepage, Fubo advertises its least expensive package as $84.99/month after a $30 first-month discount. Only when you get to the checkout screen do you see the true cost of your regional sports fee. This makes the true cost over $100/month.
Honestly, that’s insane considering Fubo is lacking top channels like CNN, TNT, truTV, TBS, HGTV, History Channel, MeTV, Discovery Channel, INSP, TLC, and Food Network.
DIRECTV STREAM offers regional sports as an add-on to their MySports package for a combined $89.98. Or enjoy 3 discounted months of their Choice package with regional sports for $89.99. Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV offer far fewer regional sports, but they only cost $82.99. Why would anyone pay so much more for Fubo?

Many sports teams now offer standalone streaming services or you can add FanDuel Sports as a Prime Video channel for a lower season price than Fubo is offering. (Braves and Reds fans can get a full season for $74.99. Other FanDuel teams are just $99.99/season through Prime Video right now.)
It’s fine if Fubo wants to charge the fee, but I wish they’d put it on their main page so you don’t experience the sticker shock of an ever-increasing price further down the funnel.
