Netflix Will Be Exclusive Home to 15+ iHeartMedia Video Podcasts

Netflix doesn’t worry too much about other SVOD companies – company leaders frequently cite YouTube as a bigger threat. So now Netflix is trying to edge in on YouTube’s territory by swiping exclusive video rights to more than 15 iHeartMedia podcasts.

Starting early next year, Netflix will be home to podcasts featuring news, comedy, true crime, mental health, music, sports, and pop culture. Some of the titles coming to Netflix include:

• The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, and Loren Lorosa
• The Bobbycast with Bobby Bones
• My Favorite Murder
• Dear Chelsea with Chelsea Handler
• Joe and Jada with Fat Joe and Jadakiss
• This is Important with “Workaholics” actors Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Blake Anderson
• The Psychology of Your 20s
• Behind the Bastards
• Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know
• Stuff You Missed in History Class
• Stuff to Blow Your Mind
• New Rory & MAL
• 3 and Out with John Middlekauff
• Buried Bones

Importantly, you’ll still be able to hear all the audio versions of these podcasts on your regular platforms, but the video versions will be exclusive to Netflix.

Netflix has been branching out beyond its typical movie and TV library in recent years. Beyond their recent live sports spending, the company has made several large investments in mobile gaming. Company leaders have made a point of highlighting Netflix’s “party games” as we’re heading into the holidays. Of course, there’s also Netflix’s ongoing attempt to purchase Warner Bros., which would expose them to live TV distribution and theatrical options well outside their normal operations.

While adding video podcasts is a nice perk for Netflix subscribers, it probably won’t help these podcasts grow their audiences as much as YouTube. While Netflix has over 300 million global subscribers, the reach of YouTube’s free service is unbelievably powerful.
