Refreshed Free Fandango Streaming Service in the Works

When it comes to free streaming services, Fandango at Home isn’t usually one that jumps to mind. The platform formerly knowns as Vudu is mostly used as a movie and TV rental or purchase portal. But the service does have a good lineup of free movies and shows and the commercial breaks aren’t all that bad.

Today, Fandango’s parent company says they’re investing in a bigger, better free streaming app and it should release later this year.

“Fandango is already a big, broad brand,” said Versant CEO Mark Lazarus. “It’s already on people’s phones and connected TVs because of buying moving tickets and also it’s a top 5 home video service for buying and renting movies and TV series. So we already have a large installed base. It’s now a matter of converting them and showing them that we have a strong, free AVOD service, something that we have seen the trends across the industry as a growth vehicle. And we believe that the combination of our brand and our content and our large installed base will help us grow quickly.”

Streaming Smarter sent a message to Versant’s communications team to ask if this is a planned revamp of the existing Fandango At Home or an entirely new service.

What Can You Watch on Fandango At Home?

Right now, you can watch lots of great movies for free. Some highlights include:

  • The Super Mario Bros. Movie
  • Taken
  • Crimson Tide
  • Evil Dead 2
  • Dodgeball
  • M3GAN
  • Saw X
  • Midsommar
  • Asteroid City
  • Apocalypse Now (Redux)
  • It Follows
  • Ex Machina
  • Secretary
  • Tender Mercies
  • The Descent
  • Requiem for a Dream
  • Room
  • The Zone of Interest
  • An American Werewolf in London
  • The Pianist
  • Grizzly Man
  • The Master
  • The Fablemans
  • Pumping Iron

The TV library is much more limited, but has some popular shows like “House of Villains,” “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse,” “Chrisley Knows Best,” “Botched,” and “Face-Off.”

While Fandango At Home isn’t in the gold tier of free streamers (Tubi, Pluto TV, Kanopy, Hoopla, Roku Channel, Plex), it’s a worthy addition to the rotation. As it exists now, it’s worth visiting every few weeks to see if there’s something fun to watch. Hopefully with bigger investment in the platform, it can become even more useful.
