Chloé Zhao’s latest film brings us the story of William Shakespeare’s wife and her three kids. While William is away making a name for himself in theater, Agnes is home giving birth to their three kids. When tragedy strikes, the marriage is pushed to the breaking point, and William’s only chance at reconciliation comes in the form of a theatrical love letter to his family.

Buckley’s performance may absolutely break you. She is the beating heart of a movie about what it’s like to be a mom.

Winner: Best Supporting Actress (Amy Madigan)

It’s not often the Oscars honor a horror movie, let alone an actor in one. But Amy Madigan’s creepy Aunt Gladys is no ordinary villain. One night, every student except one disappears from an elementary school class. What does Aunt Gladys have to do with it? We won’t spoil anything, but this movie will be a hit for anyone who has enjoyed recent hits like “Get Out” and “Us.”
