Warner Bros. Discovery Announces Names of Spinoff Companies

Last month, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it was splitting its company into two new entities. Today, we have the names of those properties moving forward. The movie studio and streaming company will be called Warner Bros. and the mostly TV side will be called Discovery Global.

The company also announced the leadership group of each separated property moving forward.

Warner Bros.

This company will be led by butterfingered goon David Zaslav and will have most of the content we care about. In the initial announcement, this group was temporarily called “Warner Bros. Discovery Streaming & Studios.”

  • Warner Bros. movie and TV studios
  • HBO
  • HBO Max
  • DC Studios
  • TNT Sports (international)

The leadership team also includes some people who are good at their jobs:

Casey Bloys asย Chairman and CEO, HBO and HBO Max, JB Perrette as CEO & President of Streaming and Games, and James Gunn as Co-Chairman and CEO, DC Studios.

Discovery Global

Current WBD CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels gets stuck holding this bag of rotting meat as the President and CEO of Discovery Global. In the initial announcement, this group was briefly called “Warner Bros. Discovery Global Networks.”

  • Discovery Channel
  • Bleacher Report
  • HGTV
  • CNN and itsย upcoming streaming service
  • TNT
  • TLC
  • Cartoon Network
  • Food Network
  • TBS
  • Adult Swim
  • Discovery+
  • TNT Sports in the U.S.

Gunnar is also saddled with the โ€œmajorityโ€ of WBDโ€™s $37 billion debt load. Congrats on the new gig, Gunnar!

This move is similar to what NBCUniversal did with the bulk of its cable channels, creating a new company called Versant.
