What Are the Odds You Keep a Streamer 12 Months After a Black Friday Deal? About 1 in 3

This is the best time of year to score a great streaming deal. Almost every streamer is offering a deep discount to lure you in. But when those discounts disappear in a month or two, most people drop the service over time. According to analytics firm Antenna, 2 in 3 Black Friday subscribers tend to cut the service loose within a year.

So how popular are Black Friday deals?

Antenna estimates 8.3 million sign-ups went to premium streaming services during Black Friday sales last year. That’s 2 million more than Black Friday 2023. Hulu‘s deep discount was the most popular last year (2.3M), followed by Paramount+ (2.1M), Disney+ (1.4M), and Peacock (1.3M).

But those Black Friday deals don’t always add up to reliable subscribers. In 2023, just 36% of Black Friday subscribers stuck with the service a year later.

Still, the Black Friday crew were slightly more loyal than people who signed up with other promotions, so it makes sense for services to offer a deal. (Netflix and Peacock are the big services that skipped Black Friday this year.)

Obviously, the subscribers most likely to stick around are those who can sign up for a full year of discounted service. In 2025, that list is fairly small. There’s HBO Max, Plex, Curiosity Stream, and BBC Maestro. (Plex even has a discount on their lifetime plan, which I have and I love.)

Beyond that, Apple TV is offering 50% off for 6 months, and most other services are only offering a 2- or 3-month deal.

For most of the U.S., winter is a perfect time to try a new streaming service. You can have it on while wrapping presents or watching movies by the fire while it snows outside. Most streaming services offer a lot of their best content in December as they try to qualify for awards in 2026. So even if you enjoy the discount for a couple of months, it’s worth it.

I’ll always advocate for the longest duration you can get, so consider those year-long subscriptions above. But there are many other good deals on shorter terms.
